I’ve been crocheting lots of African animals recently, there was the Giraffe and Rhino a few weeks ago, the Elephant last week and now the Okapi! These are quite unusual animals; they have long necks like a giraffe and striped legs like a zebra (zebra pattern coming soon!). I’ve been wanting to make a pattern for one of these for a while and I’m really pleased with how it has turned out. The pattern is very similar to the previous giraffe pattern but I have made some changes such as making the ears bigger and changing the horns.

The pattern is made using a 3.5mm hook and dk weight yarn of which you’ll need three colours; brown, black and white. Whilst most of my amigurumi patterns stand at about 4 inches tall this one will be a little bigger due to its long neck. I’ve used The Craft Factory Toy Eyes which are perfect for any amigurumi project but you don’t have to use them – instead you can embroider on some eyes with black yarn.

Materials

Brown yarn: Hayfield Bonus DK – chocolate (0947)

White yarn: Hayfield Bonus DK – white (0961)

Black yarn: Hayfield Bonus DK – black (0965)

Eyes: The Craft Factory Toy Eyes Solid Black – 9mm (you may use yarn to sew on eyes if you prefer)
