Today’s free pattern is this little sheep. The fleece of the sheep is made using lots of chains, its the same method which is used in this lion pattern from a few weeks ago. Using all these chains is really effective in creating the right texture for a sheep fleece and is really soft to touch.

I chose to make the face and legs using black yarn (James C. Brett Top Value DK – 8430) and the body fleece parts using white yarn (James C. Brett Top Value DK – 8428). However, as sheep can be a variety of colours you could try any DK yarn you think would look good. As always I’ve used The Craft Factory Toy Eyes Solid Black – 9mm for the eyes and as always you can use a bit of yarn to stitch on some eyes if you prefer.

I’m going to start work on another sheep pattern soon – something wearable – so make sure you check back for that or subscribe to he newsletter at the bottom of the page to receive emails when new patterns are published. The upcoming pattern will use a lot of these chains so get some practice in with this pattern now.

If you’ve not fallen asleep from all the talk of sheep, go grab your yarn and a hook and get started!
