Spring is fully underway and the weather is warming up which means our greenhouse is full of plants just starting to grow. It’s also full of lots of boring plastic pots which I have decided to brighten up with these fun plant pot covers.

I’ve come up with three simple designs which can be easily adapted for any pot, yarn or hook size. I’ve made them for a variety of different sized pots and the ones pictured are made using Hayfield bonus DK yarn with a 3.5mm hook. These are a really good way to use up any scrap yarn you have left over and they are quick and easy to make.

  • This pattern can be adapted to fit any plant pot you have
  • You can use any yarn and hook
  • Gauge does not matter
  • Yardage will vary depending on size of pot and yarn used

Round 6: *4 sc, inc* Repeat to end of round (36)

Continue increasing rounds in this way until the circle is the same size as the base of your pot. Once you have completed this, sl st with the first sc of the previous round. Then continue with one of the three patterns below.

Yellow Pot

If the base of your pot is much narrower than the top you will have to add increases over the following rounds. I recommend trying the pot cover on your plant pot as you work to ensure it is not getting too tight.

Round 1:  ch 2, hdc in next sc and in every sc to the end of the round, sl st with the ch 2.

Round 2 – 4: Repeat round 1

Round 5: ch 2, bphdc in next st and in every st to the end of the round, sl st with the ch 2.

Round 6: Repeat round 5

Repeat rounds 1 – 6 until the pot cover is an inch shorter than it needs to be.

Round 7: ch 3, *fpdc, bpdc* repeat to end of round, sl st with ch 3

Repeat round 7 until the plant pot cover is the same size as the plant pot.

Fasten off and weave in ends.
